Templar Sentinels are well-trained and fully initiated knights of the Order, however, they are not equipped for open battle in the same way Templar Knights themselves are, instead, these Templars are mostly equipped for garrison duties. The Holy Land is Papal, and the Anatolia is Turkish. The men responsible for keeping watch over these grim places are known as Templar-Sentinels. I control Lisbon, Algiers, Tunis, Marseille, Milan, Genoa, Bern, Innsbruck, Florence, Bologna, Naples, Palermo, Ajaccio, Cagliari, Ragusa, Venice, Zagreb, Durazzo, Constantinople, Nicea, Smyria, Crete, Rhodes, Alexandria and Dongola, and am about to take Tripoli and Timbuktu, but the Hungrarians (my main rival) controls Hungary, East Europe, and Russia, while France controls West Germany, France, and the top of Spain, and Scotland controls Scandinavia and Spain. As soon as one attacks and I defend, they will unite, and, combined, they will be able to overpower me. I know I can get the 45 territories without attacking any of them (I already have 25), but they are (secretly, but I know) united against me. Unfortunately, I am thus the target of my friends/rivals. According to the graphs, I am the most powerful faction by a significant margin. I have a new, and far greater problem now though. I was about to get St Johns, when I conquered Tunis and got it anyway. It's a rare moment of historical accuracy on the part of CA, but the Templars are no more aggressive than your average feudal or chivalric knights. There isn't really a difference between the two knight units, I've never really noticed the impetuosity of the Templars or the discipline of the Hospitallers especially. I've only had Templar chapter houses twice that I remember - once in Inverness as Scotland after launching a (failed) crusade to capture Vilnius, and once in my Venetian campaign, in Innsbruck after capturing Bologna from the HRE on a crusade. Since you can only have one order or the other, most people get Hospitallers and never see Templars. Crusading is also a must for either one, and you're most likely to go on a crusade to Jerusalem or Antioch before you get one against the excommunicate, or somewhere in the pagan Baltic region. What makes the Hospitallers so much easier to get is a funny restriction about having a province bordering one with 50% or higher Muslim population, i.e. The Holy Land is Papal, and the Anatolia is Turkish. The thing about Templars and Hospitallers is that they have the same basic requirements, (a general with 5+ chivalry isn't a must, but it helps a LOT).
